On the rise: Equinox Esports signs pro VALORANT team China Nguyen

OKLAHOMA CITY Oct. 14, 2020 – Equinox Esports is proud to announce the acquisition of tier-one VALORANT team China Nguyen as its first professional esports team.

China Nguyen was established in May 2020 and boasts a record of 13 first-place victories in 30 tournaments and a 16-win-5-loss match record in the past 30 days. It has been ranked as the ninth-best team in North America by THESPIKE.GG. The team roster includes David “DXN” Nguyen (Captain), Danny “cute fat boy” Nguyen, Carlo “Dcop” Delsol, Jake “Paincakes” Hass and Kevin “mina” Nguyen.

When building an esports organization from the ground up, the pedigree of the developer, the game’s genre, the stability of the esport and the ability for an organization to grow alongside the title is important. These factors led Equinox to jump into Riot Games’ tactical shooter VALORANT to hunt for the perfect roster.

Our goal was finding a team that could capitalize on pre-existing synergy and had a good, healthy team culture, and China Nguyen displayed that,” said Connor Knudsen, director of competition at Equinox. “We have immense respect for all of the players and are excited to let them continue building that culture together under our organization while we give them the resources they need to take their game to the next level. We don’t just want to win in the short term. We want to build something truly amazing at Equinox Esports.”

The Equinox VALORANT team will compete in upcoming tournaments including the Renegades $10k Invitational, hosted by professional esports organization Renegades, and the First Strike Invitational, hosted by multibillion-dollar esports company Riot Games.

“We started off as a group of friends that were just good at the game, but when the original members went their separate ways, Danny and I started playing some tournaments with other people and we rebuilt the team with some guys we meshed together with,” David “DXN” Nguyen said. “Being picked up by an organization was a goal of ours, especially when we started performing very well in tournaments and being recognized as a top 10 team in North America, but we didn’t want to just get picked up. We started aiming for a promising organization that would support us. We mutually decided Equinox was the best one for us.

“Our short-term goal is to win the First Strike series, but long term, we plan to become the best VALORANT team. It’s a reachable goal as long as well keep up our practice and consistently learn and improve. Our ultimate end goal is being a top competitor in VALORANT’s franchise league.”
