April League of Legends At-Home In-House Tournament Recap – Exclusively Sponsored by HyperX

EVENT OVERVIEW AND RECAP

For final in session tournament we fixated on League of Legends leveraging our partner Uconnect Esports to incentivize participation. They helped us secure a sponsorship from HyperX for their new Cloud Core 7.1 headsets. We began promotion for this event right after Spring Break in March which was only elevated due to the pandemic impacts of us all being at home from that point forward. LoL Ambassador, Darren Nguyen, served as the tournament organizer for this event.

Previously, many of our LoL tournaments for the community had been hosted on campus in a physical lab, but going fully online has it’s perks as well. We capped the tournament at eight teams total and for LoL that’s teams of five. Darren also took it upon himself to manage free agency and load balancing referencing player analytics to ensure teams are as balanced as possible heading into the tournament. We filled all 40 team slots well before the start of the event on April 17th.

We posted the entire production of the event below. We want to give a special thanks to HyperX for providing us headsets for the winning team and we providing Amazon gift cards for 2nd and 3rd place teams to ensure a wider audience had incentive. Additionally, we appreciate Uconnect Esports for providing a means to connect with brands like HyperX to further elevate opportunities for our members and campus collectively!
