If you've been in Norman long enough and spent any time on Main Street, you've most likely seen a little place called Loot & XP.
Loot & XP started on Main Street by five owners in 2015. Inspired by other board game cafes all over the world, they decided to bring the experience to Norman for college students and families alike. The cafe began with a little over 300 games, but quickly grew to the 1000 plus they have in their library today.
The concept of a board game cafe may seem intimidating at first. Going in there with almost no board game knowledge outside of a casual game of monopoly and seeing their large inventory of games was scary at first. When I browsed the shelves, it was hard for me to find games that I’d heard of, or even played. However, it was impossible to find a game that I wasn’t interested in. The employees were more than happy to help my friends and I learn the rules of a game, and line a queue of games that were perfect for our skill level.
They also host numerous events for the community, and they don’t always center around board games. Trivia nights, playtests, miniature painting and D&D are just some of the monthly events they host alongside various board game tournaments.
Overall, Loot & XP is a not so hidden gem of Norman. Any group of friends could walk in, with any experience, and have a great night. Their library is always growing, and it’s an affordable place to go any night of the week.
The best part of Loot & XP is that they are giving the members of the OU Esports Club a special discount. Members get half off regular admission and $1 off their first drink. That makes admission $3! Simply show them your student ID and the special Loot & XP graphic in our members-only Discord.
A huge thank you to Loot & XP for offering this discount for our members, and for coming out to our events and allowing our members to experience Loot & XP on campus!
